It’s easy to go green in the Cumberland Valley. Stroll through our charming downtowns on a guided or self-guided walking tour, relax at the first certified green restaurant in PA or take a tour of the world’s largest gourd-crafting company. Cumberland Valley is your stop for everything organic, recycled and locally made.
Day 1 – Boiling Springs / Camp Hill
Morning/Lunch: The charming town of Boiling Springs invites eco-enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. The center of town features the seven-acre spring-fed bubbling Children’s Lake where bird watching, boating and a leisurely walk are a must. Lunch at the historic Boiling Springs Tavern is always peaceful with a great view of the lake.
Afternoon: Head over to the Village Artisans Gallery to view local artists’ work, including those who make their creations out of recycled materials. After hopping take a Self-Guided or Guided Historical Walking Tour of this quaint town.
Evening: A relaxing dinner is served at Arooga’s Sports Bar & Grille in Camp Hill. This restaurant was recognized as the first certified Green Restaurant in Pennsylvania and offers great wings, sandwiches and pizza.
Sleep green accommodations are available at the Homewood Suites by Hilton.
Day 2 – Carlisle
Morning: Begin with shopping and a tour at the world’s largest gourd- crafting company, Meadowbrooke Gourds. Shop for one-of-a-kind gifts and watch how this farm grows, cleans and turns their gourds into a work-of-art. After shopping take a Self-Guided or Guided Historical Walking Tour of downtown Carlisle.
Lunch: Enjoy a laid-back lunch at the authentic Belgian restaurant, Café Bruges, including traditional Belgian fare and an ever-changing selection of beer and ales considered to be among the best in the world. They depend on local ingredients to deliver tasty fresh meals.
Afternoon/Dinner: After lunch take a guided kayaking trip at Kings Gap State Park or take in one of their many customizable education programs ranging from the history of the on-site mansion to a guided walk through the gardens, grounds and trails. Indoor programming is available ranging from flora and fauna to birds and reptiles. The day comes to an end with a catered dinner inside the 32-room Italian villa-style Masland Mansion at Kings Gap State Park.
