Luscious, rich farmlands stretch for miles on either side of the Red River, a rare,
north-flowing waterway. This “gateway” to America’s West holds true from the
first United States military fort in what became North Dakota, to the rise of
American bonanza farms and railroads that carried abundant wheat and grains
across the nation. Your tour group can celebrate Scandinavian heritage, throw
in a line at “Catfish Days” or experience fun events like Ribfest, Blues Fest, arts
and craft fairs.
Day 1:
Bagg Bonanza Farm, Mooreton
Westward expansion still preserved at a genuine American bonanza farm.
Prairie Rose Carousel, Wahpeton
Pick a horse of many colors or enjoy a bench, just make sure you take a ride.
Chahinkapa Zoo, Wahpeton
More than 200 animals from six continents and 60 species.
Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site, Abercrombie
First U.S. military fort in what would become North Dakota guarded the oxcart trails, supply wagon trains, stagecoaches and steamboat traffic of the Red River.
Fargo Theatre, Fargo
Historic landmark features a “Mighty Wurlitzer” pipe organ and hosts the Fargo Film Festival.
Roger Maris Museum, Fargo
Museum dedicated to baseball great Roger Maris, who grew up in Fargo and is famous for hitting 61 home runs in 1961.
Scheels Wheel, Fargo
A 45-foot, 12-car, 1953 park-style Ferris wheel inside the world’s largest all-sports store.
Day 2:
Bonanzaville, West Fargo
Large collection of artifacts, historic homes, air museum, blacksmith shop and more.
Fargo Air Museum, Fargo
More than 20 civilian and military aircraft and many exhibits honoring military and air explorers.
Center for Aerospace Sciences, University of North Dakota, Grand Forks
Features an atmospherium, high altitude chamber, flight and air
traffic control simulators and the Regional Weather Information Center.
North Dakota Museum of Art, Grand Forks
Exhibitions and permanent collections of regional, national and international fine art.
Ralph & Betty Engelstad Arena, Grand Forks
Home to UND’s nationally-ranked hockey team. Built for $100 million by a former player and founder of the Las Vegas Imperial Palace Casino.
Pembina State Museum, Pembina
Features a seven-story observation tower with a panoramic view.
Day 3:
Gingras Trading Post, Walhalla
Original standing structure built by Euro-Americans in North Dakota.
Frost Fire Mountain Ski Lodge/Summer Theater, Walhalla
Downhill skiing and dramatic stage performances at the outdoor summer theater.
Icelandic State Park, Cavalier
Camp by the lake and visit the Pioneer Heritage Center, Gunlogson Homestead and the nature preserve.
Rendezvous Region Scenic Backway
11.5 miles winding along the Pembina River. Enjoy the panorama of the Pembina Gorge plus the recreational, historical and natural scenic opportunities of the area.
International Peace Garden, Dunseith
Straddles the international border with Canada and features 150,000 flowers, Peace Chapel, International Music Camp, 120-foot Peace Tower and a 9/11
